Industry Collaborations: Delivering Video Efficiently

Tuesday, March 4, 10:00-10:25am - Streaming video has become the dominant form of content on the internet, accounting for over 70% of traffic today. As a result, delivering video efficiently is no longer just a desirable goal, but a necessity for both Content and Application Providers (CAPS) and Telecommunications companies (Telcos). In this session, we will explore the various efficiency levers that have been utilized by CAPs to date, including the use of CDNs, advanced codecs, and adaptive bitrate streaming. Representatives from three leading companies will share their initiatives and experiences in driving video efficiency, with a focus on collaboration between CAPS and Telcos. We will discuss the importance of codecs as a key lever for future efficiencies, as well as the potential benefits of informational exchange in a standards-based way to make Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) more responsive. Through this session, we aim to facilitate a dialogue between CAPS and Telcos on how to work together to further video efficiency, ultimately providing users with the best possible video experience while being mindful of network resources.
