Speaker Bio
Carmel Ortiz has over 30 years of engineering leadership in telecommunications, satellite, and digital media. As Senior Vice President of Technology and Innovation at Intelsat, she drives the ideation, design, and development of breakthrough technology initiatives that redefine Intelsat’s service offerings.
Previously, Carmel served as Vice President and Chief Systems Engineer at OneWeb, where she led the end-to-end system design, development, and performance of its low-Earth orbit (LEO) broadband communication system. Before that, she co-founded Skjei Telecom, a satellite communications engineering consultancy, and held engineering roles at GTE Corporation, GTE Spacenet, and GE Americom.
Carmel represents Intelsat on the boards of ATIS and the Digital IF Interoperability (DIFI) Consortium and serves on the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Alumni Advisory Board. A graduate of Georgia Tech with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, she was inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Engineering Alumni in 2022.
